Raise the Lid on Little Vampire Girl at My Mind’s Eye Records in Lakewood
Fri 6/17 @ 7-10PM
Book launch parties are not unknown, but comic-book parties open up whole new realms of celebration. In honor of the “birthday” for the new mini-comic Little Vampire Girl, a party with creator Angela Oster takes place at one of Lakewood’s landmark vinyl record store My Mind’s Eye.
Oster, a Rocky River-based illustrator with a sort of Tim Burton-esque vibe and recipient of a Cuyahoga Creative Workforce Fellowship, has given this self-published portfolio “the full works … a large print run in full color with a cover.”
Said Oster, “This comic is my first collection of drawings about the Little Vampire Girl — a character that started appearing for me about three years ago. It’s not a linear narrative — it’s more like a series of vignettes. The character is an alter ego of sorts and also inspired by own eight-year old daughter and friends’ kids. The Little Vampire Girl is a little bratty and a bit creepy, but ultimately loveable.”
There will be no fewer than three area DJs — DJ Fishtruck, DJ Wampus Cat and Count Bird Brain — spinning during the three-hour soiree, which will also have refreshments and promises cold drinks in an ice-filled coffin. Oster will gift the first 30 attendees with a free sketch.
Admission won’t bleed you white; it is free as well.
